  General
Ever wanted to visit a particular place in the world but wondered what it would be like first? Sort of like a"Try before you buy".

Well here are some brief descriptions of places we have visited so you can judge for yourself.

Bangkok, Thailand - visited November 1997
Bangkok is a busy, polluted, noisy city but for a Western person it can provide an intersting view of Eastern culture. There are many temples and statues of interest, but the highlight for us was a boat ride on a "hang yao" (a narrow boat powered by a truck engine!) which travels along the "klongs" or canals which run through Bangkok. This is an excellent trip and away from the noise and traffic, provides another side of the city altogether.

Summary
Interesting for 3/4 days.
Great food, and cheap.
Cheap clothing.

Wellington, New Zealand - visited December 1997
Wellington is situated at the bottom of North Island and is the nations capital. It is a friendly city and boasts a wealth of cafe's, bars and restaurants for a population of only 300,000 people. Build around a large natural harbour, the best time to visit is in the summer when you can visit one of the numerous beaches or just watch the local windsurfing or water-skiing. Take the ferry or catamaran across to Picton in South Island for a view of the scenic Marlborough Sounds and maybe a dolphin or two. Visit Mount Vicotria for amazing views and Te Papa, the futuristic museum on the waterfront.
Beware of the wind!

Summary
Well worth a weeks visit.
Great place to chill-out.
Cheap for Westerners.
